The transformation of the teaching of the First Republic in the 20th and 21st centuries in Czech and Slovak textbooks

This work aims to compare Czech and Slovak primary school textbooks used in the 20th and 21st centuries, with a focus on the First Republic period. The comparison evaluates the content and form of the textbooks based on five specific topics. Additionalyy, the work includes an interpretation of the First Republic in the 1920s, a comparison of the educational programs between the observed period and previous years, an analysis of school educational programs, a description of teaching resources, and a questionnaire survey. Image of Luxembourg in Czech history textbooks in the 19th and 20th century

The objective of this diploma thesis is to characterize the image of Luxembourgs in the Czech history textbooks in the 19th and 20th century. The work is based on the assumption that the history education takes a significant part in making a young person's identity. The thesis describes the development of this image and the way in which the educational literature reflected the atmosphere of the day and its transformation in the context of historical development. The dynamic development of the image of the Czech history of 14th and 15th centuries is the central theme of the work. It will be mainly focused on the historical figures of Bohemian Luxembourg kings: John of Luxembourg, Charles IV, Wenceslaus IV and Sigismund of Luxembourg.
The Ethnonational problematics in history textbooks for high schools in current Russia

This diploma thesis is called "The Ethnonational problematics in history textbooks for high schools in current Russia" and is divided into four parts. The first one opens the problematics and aspects of history teaching at schools in general, what factors have impact on its performance and, at the same time, how this imprinting influences individuals and the society. Second part is focused on Russian background of teaching and presenting historical events, and also its institutional base, system and major sources of influence. The focal part analyses current history textbooks for high schools in order to point out the approach to miscellaneous ethnics living in Russians lands in the past and now, and the presentation and explanation of the fact, that Russia has ever been a multinational state. The results and conclusions - the main determination in Russian history teaching - are discussed in the last part.
Antiquity in history textbooks for secondary schools 1948-1989

The thesis focuses on didactic and historical analysis of history textbooks used during the Communist totalitarian regime at secondary schools in Czechoslovakia republic between 1948-1989. Goal of this thesis was to find out if there were any changes of historical events interpretation of Classical antiquity in consideration of political development in the country. The theoretical part consists of brief political development and development of education in Czechoslovakia in observed period. The practical part deals with the analysis and the comparison of textbooks from totalitarian and present era with emphasis on didactics and content. I concluded that interpretative texts influenced by the communist ideology were more focused on social problems in contemporary society. Textbooks were also focused on slavery issue, especially their hard life and described passed slave rebellions. This is most obvious in textbooks published in the 1950s. This thesis contains an analysis of Czech and German history textbooks that are meant for higher primary education and lower secondary education. Emphasis is being put on the interpretation of chosen key events during the Second World War within the given Czech and German textbooks. The author focuses on the theoretical, practical, and image side of this didactic medium. The thesis summarises theoretical knowledge about history textbooks as a basic educational medium. It characterises the ways of teaching about the Second World War in the Czech Republic and the Federal Republic of Germany, specifically in Brandenburg, including History curriculum within the Framework Educational Programme for higher primary education and lower secondary education, and the German Framework Educational Programme. It also mentions the didactic conception and content of history education in both countries. The main objective of the thesis is the research of Czech and German textbooks for primary education and lower secondary education dedicated to the topic of Second World War. The author describes differences and conformities in the conception and general equipment of Czech and German textbooks on both, the content and iconic texts´ side.
Reflection of the First Czechoslovak Republic in the History of Textbooks in the Second Half of the 20th Century

This thesis deals with the image of the First Czechoslovak Republic as presented in history textbooks in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The main goal of the thesis is to reflect the approach to and transformation of the way the First Republic was depicted in the history textbooks issued between 1948 and 2004. The theoretical part of the thesis briefly outlines the development of school structure and curricular documents in the period observed as well as the transformation of historiographical production with respect to the Czechoslovak interwar history. Furthermore, the key terms are defined that are based on crucial topics and generalizations of the present-day Czech historiographical production. These terms are then studied in history textbooks in six periods matching the chronology of education reforms and subsequently analyzed in terms of explanation and interpretation methods. The final part of the thesis presents each of the observed interpretation changes in relation to the selected key terms. The greatest textbook alterations were found in connection with the change of the social and political circumstances after the fall of the Communist regime.
Greco-Turkish War (1920-1922) in the Turkish and Greek history textbooks

This bachelor thesis focuses on the Greco-Turkish War of 1920 - 1922 and its representation in history textbooks in Turkey and Greece. The introductory part deals with pre-war political situation in the respection states and the Greco-Turkish War itself. The following chapters briefly summarize education systems in Greece and Turkey and the specific textbooks that were used as the source of the analysis in this thesis. The final part includes analysis of both books more specifically, the focus is on the design, structure or extent (number of pages) of the books as well as individual periods, additional information, visels (maps, pictures, photos) included.
The rule of the Jagiellonian dynasty on the Czech territory as documented in 1918-1938 textbooks

The diploma thesis, entitled "The rule of the Jagiellonian dynasty on the Czech territory as documented in 1918-1938 textbooks", observes the transformation of a historical fact regarding data concerning the period of the reign of the Jagellonian dynasty, as stated in Czech and Polish textbooks dating back to 1918-1938. The national and socio-political point of the emergence of both countries after 1918 is the basis for the observation and comparison of the presented historiographical content. The thesis focuses on the difference of the presentation of the historical content, as well as on the influence of a particular political period on the text editing of the content in history textbooks. The thesis begins with an introduction to the Jagellonian period. This is followed by a comparison of historical contents in Polish and Czechoslovakian history textbooks. Finally, this work also shows the effect of political situations on the transformation of historiography and the narrative of content regarding the Jagellonian period in history textbooks. How to teach history of the Roma people?

This Master thesis deals with teaching of history of the Roma people in history lessons. The incorporation of Roma history to the curriculum is supported in the national Framework Program for Elementary Education, primarily through the cross-curricular theme of "Multicultural education". The theoretical part of this thesis consists of a brief summary of Roma history to the extent of what should be part of Elementary Education; history textbooks analysis from the perspective of Roma history; and list of other supportive educational materials. The practical part of this thesis presents a survey that was carried out within a small scale sample of secondary schools. Through the survey the current level of the 9th graders' knowledge about Roma history had been detected and subsequently a demonstrative lesson was delivered and evaluated.
